Welcome to Copaxa Tours – Entomological Trips

My name is Lorenzo Comoglio, I am Italian, and I have been living in Colombia for 12 years, where I completed my studies in biology. I have had a passion for moths since I was 15 years old when I started raising them at home. This passion led me to deepen my study of them and settle in Colombia, a country rich in biodiversity. Over the years, I have traveled throughout the country for my research and fieldwork, describing several species from the Saturniidae family.

I founded Copaxa Tours to share my knowledge and field experience with fellow entusiasts. Our mission is to offer insect and nature lovers an unparalleled journey, with a specialized tour experience focused on entomological observation in Colombia.

Exploring a tropical country like Colombia with an expert entomological guide ensures you won’t miss the best forests, with 4×4 transportation and top-quality equipment to enhance your experience safely and comfortably.

Why Colombia is the Best Country for Entomological Observation?

Colombia is one of the most biodiverse countries in the world, and when it comes to insects, it’s no exception.

  • Diverse ecosystems. From tropical rainforests, Andean forests, and páramos to savannas and deserts, Colombia is home to a vast variety of habitats, and this diversity will be most evident as you travel across the country, passing through various ecosystems. You will choose whether to explore the mountains and enjoy the mild climate or descend into the humid, tropical valleys.
  • High endemism. Many species of moths, butterflies, and other insects are exclusive to Colombia, offering the opportunity to observe unique specimens that are found nowhere else in the world. Of the more than 750 species of Saturniidae reported for Colombia, half are endemic.
  • Unexplored areas. Colombia has regions that are still little studied, making entomological exploration an exciting adventure with the possibility of discovering new species.
  • Ideal climatic conditions. The variety of climates and the absence of marked seasons allows entomological activity year-round. However, the rainy seasons from March to May and October to November are ideal.
  • Access to remote sites. The mountainous geography and pristine jungles make Colombia’s ecosystems rich and varied, sparsely populated, and thus conserved for entomology enthusiasts.
